چکیده

The effect of alkali (Sodium Bicarbonate) on metastatic calcification produced by Hypervitammosis D (ergocalciferol) was studied in rats. Six organs e.g. kidneys, heart, lungs, stomach, aorta and liver of the rats were examined for evidence of calcification. Six out of ten rats receiving vitamin D alone and seven out of ten rats receiving vitamin D and sodiumbicarbonate in combination, showed calcification of various organs. There was no significant difference in the amount and distribution of calcification between the two groups, except in the lungs where calcification was more severe in the animals receiving alkali along with vitamin D (JPMA 34 345, (1984).

Effects of Hypervitaminosis a and D on Skeletal Metabolism.

The feeding of escessive amounts of vitamin D to animals causes pathological changes in the skeleton and calcification of soft tissues (l-4). Hypervitaminosis A causes bone fragility. Spontaneous fractures occur in growing rats, whereas in the adult rat only rarefaction develops (5-8). Although excesses of each vitamin cause specific pathological changes, the concomitant feeding of toxic amount...

A case report of hypervitaminosis D in 2 months old infant

Introduction Vit D level is low in human milk (20-60 IU/Lit) thus dialy supplement of 400 Vit D is advised since birth for all infants. On the other hand upper limit dose for long term Vit D intake is 1000 IU/day for children less than one year of age. Excessive Vit D more than upper limit by physicians or parents can cause hypervitaminoseD. We report a rare case of hypervitaminose D in two mon...

Hypervitaminosis D3 in broiler chicks: histopathological, immunomodulatory and immunohistochemical approach

The present study was undertaken to investigate the toxic effects of higher doses (1,00,000 IU i.e. 2.5 mg/kg body weight (BW)) of vitamin D3, concomitantly with bacterial endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides: LPS) to study the immunomodulatory potential of vitamin D3 in IBL-80 broiler chicks. The chicks were divided into four groups [group I (NSS), group II (LPS), group III (Vit. D3 + NSS), and gro...

The Amelioration of Hypervitaminosis D in Rats with Vitamin A

The administration of relatively large amounts of vitamin A to hypervitaminotic D rats decreases the toxicity of this condition as evidenced by increased longevity, better weight gain, decreased soft tissue calcification and by considerable improvement in the histologic appearance of osseous structures.

Vitamin D toxicity redefined: vitamin K and the molecular mechanism.

The dose of vitamin D that some researchers recommend as optimally therapeutic exceeds that officially recognized as safe by a factor of two; it is therefore important to determine the precise mechanism by which excessive doses of vitamin D exert toxicity so that physicians and other health care practitioners may understand how to use optimally therapeutic doses of this vitamin without the risk...
